Ducks Hold Lead to Beat Habs
The Anaheim Ducks grabbed a 2-0 lead and held on for a 2-1 win over the Canadiens. This was Montreal’s second game of a 5 game road trip, having won in Detroit on Saturday night. The Habs jumped all over the Ducks in the first period, out shooting them badly. Anaheim goalie John Gibson was phenomenal and Rickard Rakell was even able to put his team on the board, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead through the first.
The Ducks doubled their lead in the second period when Cam Fowler lit the lamp, beating Carey Price with an odd angled shot from the short side. The period saw Anaheim come back from the disastrous first period and begin to match and even outplay the Habs.
This play continued well into the third with Gibson continuing to turn away anything the Habs could throw at them. However a shutout was not in the cards fr him, as the Canadiens managed to score late in the 3rd, having pulled Price for an extra attacker. Habs forward Andrew Shaw beat Gibson with 2 minutes remaining to make the final score 2-1. Shaw, however, did not even finish the game, as he was ejected in the final minute after going on a tirade against the NHL officials after receiving a hooking penalty, With the win the Ducks move to 11-8-4, while the Habs fall to 16-5-2.
